Protect Your Child's Vision

Give your children a head start on their eye care with visits to Northeast Eye Care. Our professional eye physician, Dr. Ridder, offers a caring and comfortable environment so your children remain calm during their exams.

When Should You First See an Eye Doctor?

It's crucial to schedule eye exams for your children so any potential vision problems can be detected early on. If left untreated, some vision problems can cause permanent vision loss.

The American Optometric Association recommends that infants have their first comprehensive eye exam at 6 months old. After that, children should receive eye exams at 3 years of age and right before kindergarten or first grade at age 5 or 6. The AOA recommends that school-aged children receive eye exams every two years if no vision correction is needed; for children who need eyeglasses or contact lenses, annual exams are recommended. Nebraska requires an eye exam for all children entering school for the first time.

See to Learn Program

Northeast Eye Care participates in the See to Learn program. See to Learn is a free vision assessment for 3-year-olds. Studies show that 1/5 of kindergartners have an undetected vision problem. We offer this program 3 times a year. To learn about upcoming programs in your area, please call 1-800-521-3266.

The Gift of Sight

Working with children can be difficult because they cannot effectively communicate if they are experiencing vision problems. Our team looks for structural abnormalities that could indicate there is a problem with the muscles that surround the eye or the eye itself.
