Contact Lenses

If you’ve been told in the past that contact lenses weren’t an option for you due to your prescription or eye health issues, we are here to help. Our eye doctors at Northeast Eye Care specialize in providing specialty contact lenses for hard-to-fit eye conditions. We use advanced corneal mapping technology to map out the surface of your eye (the cornea), ensuring that your lenses fit perfectly and provide optimal vision correction. From multifocal lenses for presbyopia to toric lenses for astigmatism, we offer a range of specialty contact lenses in West Point, Pender, and Oakland for all vision needs:

Rigid gas permeable lenses

Rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses can provide clear vision for those with irregular corneas or other conditions that make wearing soft lenses challenging. While soft contacts are made from a flexible plastic material that conforms to the shape of your eye, RGP lenses are made from a firmer material that holds its shape on the eye. This allows for sharper vision correction, especially for those with more complex prescription needs.

Toric contact lenses

These specialized lenses are designed specifically for individuals with astigmatism. Astigmatism is a common condition where the cornea or lens of the eye has an irregular shape, causing blurry or distorted vision at all distances. Toric contact lenses are uniquely shaped to accommodate this irregularity and provide clear vision for those with astigmatism.

Orthokeratology (ortho-k)

These specially designed gas permeable contact lenses temporarily reshape the cornea (the front surface of your eye) while you sleep, providing you with clear vision throughout the day without the need for glasses or contacts. Studies show that ortho-k is a safe and effective solution for slowing myopia progression in children and adolescents, lowering their risk of more serious eye issues in the future.

Multifocal lenses

Presbyopia is a common condition that affects people as they age, making it difficult to focus on up-close objects. This can make tasks like reading or using electronic devices a real challenge. Multifocal contact lenses address this issue by providing clear vision at all distances. Multifocal contacts allow you to see clearly without the need for multiple pairs of glasses.

Scleral lenses

These lenses are larger than traditional contacts and rest on the white part of your eye called the sclera. Because they don’t touch the cornea directly like regular contacts do, they can provide relief for conditions like keratoconus, dry eye syndrome, or irregularly shaped corneas. The extra space between the lens and your eye creates a reservoir of fluid that helps keep your eyes moist and comfortable all day long.

Prosthetic lenses

These custom-made contact lenses are designed to improve the appearance of damaged or discolored eyes due to injury, disease, or congenital conditions like aniridia or iris defects. Prosthetic lenses can match the color and pattern of the natural eye.

Hybrid lenses

Hybrid lenses combine the comfort of soft contacts with the visual clarity of RGP lenses. They have a soft outer skirt surrounding a rigid center, providing excellent comfort and sharper vision.

Monovision lenses

Monovision is ideal for those over 40 with presbyopia (loss of up-close vision with age) who need help with both near and distance vision. One eye is corrected for near vision while the other is corrected for distance, eliminating the need for reading glasses.

Cosmetic lenses

Would you like to switch up your eye color? Cosmetic lenses let you try out different looks, whether you’re going for a subtle change or a bold new style. All cosmetic lenses require a prescription, even if you don’t need vision correction.
