Pediatric Eye Exam

Pediatric Eye Exam

Did you know that many vision problems in children can go undetected without a proper exam? Issues like nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and more serious conditions like lazy eye or crossed eyes can impact your child’s development and academic performance if left untreated. That’s why it’s recommended that children have their first eye exam at around 6 months old and then again at age 3 and once more before starting school. At Northeast Eye Care, our experienced optometrists specialize in working with children of all ages to ensure their eyes are healthy and their vision is clear.

What to expect during a pediatric eye exam

During your child’s eye exam in West Point, Pender, or Oakland, our optometrist will conduct a series of tests to evaluate your child’s visual acuity (how well they see at a distance), eye muscle coordination, depth perception, color vision, and overall eye health. These tests are quick and painless but provide valuable information about your child’s vision and any potential issues that may need further attention. If needed, our team can prescribe glasses or contact lenses to help correct any vision problems or recommend treatment options for eye conditions. We also offer myopia management in West Point to help slow the progression of this condition and lower the risk of more serious eye issues later in life.

See to Learn® provider

At Northeast Eye Care, we are proud participants in the See to Learn program. Through this program, we provide vision assessments for three-year-olds at no cost to you! We offer this program three times a year. By identifying eye problems sooner rather than later, we can ensure that your child has a better chance at developing healthy eyesight as they grow. Contact us at 1-800-521-3266 to learn about upcoming programs in your area.
